Online voting at AGMs in demand as coronavirus spreads – Swiss tech firm – Networking – Software

Online voting at annual shareholder meetings (AGMs) has jumped since the coronavirus outbreak as investors shun large gatherings because of travel restrictions or fear of infection, Swiss tech firm Sherpany said.

The company, which counts Swiss giants Novartis, Nestle and Zurich Insurance among its 300 clients worldwide, provides a secure internet platform which lets shareholders vote on motions until the day before AGMs.

“We have had a big increase in usage so far, and the AGM season is only just beginning,” Sherpany Chief Executive Tobias Haeckermann told Reuters.

myGovID facial recognition trials slated for mid-2020 – Strategy – Security

The Digital Transformation Agency is hoping to begin publicly testing the facial recognition component of the government’s digital identity credentialing app by mid-2020.

Chief digital officer Peter Alexander revealed the time frame in senate estimates on Thursday, but stressed the DTA wanted to get the all-important biometric feature right before introducing it.

“We would like the biometric to be in by mid-year, but we wouldn’t pressure that,” he said.

“This is about getting it right because the biometric is so important that we do need to make sure that this is successful.”

Google has apparently released a new setting for the Google Pixel 4s face unlock, as it appears in the settings. Called “Require eyes to be open”, it would only authorise face unlock with the users’ eyes open.

The option can be uncovered if you search for “eyes” in your Pixel 4’s settings. Beside the obvious name, Require eyes to be open, there’s a small explanation that says your eyes must be open to unlock the phone.

Samsung to Shift Some Smartphone Production to Vietnam Due to Coronavirus

Samsung Electronics said on Friday that it would temporarily move some smartphone production to Vietnam from South Korea after another of its Korean staff tested positive for the coronavirus, forcing it to close a factory.

A company spokeswoman said the group had suspended operations at its factory in the southern city of Gumi in South Korea after a worker tested positive for the virus.

The plant, which makes Samsung’s premium phones like S20 and Z Flip foldable phones, will resume production on Saturday, she said.
