MTU’s Adrienne Minerick Elected to Lead Engineering Educators

Adrienne Minerick, dean of the Higher education of Computing at Michigan Technological College,
is president-elect of the American Modern society for Engineering Instruction (ASEE).

Engineering schooling was currently transforming — and now it has to. As the ASEE announcement
for their now-virtual meeting in June states, “Can we comply with the remain-home orders
and have a meeting? Of class. We are engineers. We can solve everything.”

 About the Researcher

Minerick states this can-do angle is integral to the engineering career and its
schooling mission. She seems forward to navigating adjustments and leveraging chances
for innovation at a nationwide scale. As a member of the Michigan Tech local community, equally
as dean of the University’s most recent college and as a chemical engineering college member,
Minerick has held floor for new techniques to think about
microfluidic clinical products and vocation development for gals, men and women of colour and minority groups, as well as shifts in schooling like the business-pushed realignment that developed the Higher education of Computing

“ASEE is the location where engineering and engineering know-how educators strategy for
the futures our students will come across,” Minerick said. “I am able, eager and ready
to assistance seed discussions that permit engineering specialists to leverage the rapid
expansion in computing and cybertechnologies to make certain our students engineer a brilliant

Diversity in engineering schooling is critical, she included. “Study after review, many by
ASEE authors, has shown that growing range of teams decreases engineering failures.
We are in an remarkable time when conventional engineering and academic tactics
are getting re-examined from additional — and diverse — perspectives.”

Minerick’s platform centered on simplifying ASEE procedures to shift the governance
state of mind to persuade engineering entry and mobility of strategies. Collaboration is the
ticket to innovation. Minerick strategies to develop off the board’s prolonged-variety planning
to limit boundaries to pilot imaginative new strategies, measure those people strategies’ affect,
and empower engineering teams to catapult forward ethically and socially educated
engineering alternatives that effectively solve our existing and ongoing worldwide grand
issues in a way that can be sustained. ASEE can assistance students and college increase
to the issues.

Sheryl Sorby, ASEE’s future president and professor in the Engineering Instruction Innovation
Heart at Ohio Condition College, is no stranger to working with Minerick. Sorby previously
taught in Michigan Tech’s Engineering Fundamentals program.

“I am thrilled that Adrienne will be following me as president-elect and then president
of ASEE. Two gals from Michigan Tech for two a long time in a management role at ASEE is
great,” Sorby said. “Adrienne demonstrates continuous, good management and is insightful

will provide as president-elect from June 2020 to June 2021, a 12 months that will definitely
be formed by COVID-19 reaction efforts and their impacts on schooling, engineering
industries and college student life. She will provide as president from June 2021 to June 2022,
and as earlier-president the following 12 months.

“ASEE will be in good palms with Adrienne at the helm,” said Stephanie Adams, ASEE’s
latest president and dean and Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair at the College of Texas-Dallas.
“I have identified her for a number a long time and find her to possess a deep and comprehensive knowing
of the engineering and larger schooling enterprises. She will deliver a thoughtful,
inclusive and decisive method to her presidency and I appear forward to her management
and working with her future 12 months from the earlier-president posture.”
